I think the tone and the content of the story is inherently racist. There is something distasteful about a mishap surrounding an Asian person with that of a endangered species in itself is somehow patronizing. It undeniably evinces the writer's own perception of the Asian culture and stereotype seen through a colored glass. I also did not find the story in itself to be specious.
