"Viet Blues" was also serialized in English in issues 52-55 of Crisis in 1990. That's the only Sinner story I've read and I really enjoyed it. I'd like to see more one day.
10 years ago when living in Montreal, I came across these dark graphic albums in a book store. They seemed gritty, brutal and intense. Although they were in French I made a poor choice in not buying them that day.
Fast-forward 8 years and I find myself on the West Coast Googling "hard boiled french comics". A piece on Munoz came up. I read it and knew that those were the images that had been haunting me for a decade.
On a trip to Montreal in 2008, I purchased 2 collections. Joe's Bar was one of them. They're still in French but I can struggle through them with the help of Google translate.
Agree with you about the first two issues. "Viet Blues" is a great, great story. I wish you'd have discussed the meta-textual implications of "Life Ain't a Comic Strip, Baby" in detail...I know it's not really used as a formal device but I'm sure you have something insightful to add! And apparently Munoz studied under Pratt in Buenos Aires.

I'm glad France paid tribute to Munoz last year.
